We are back in the hunt and we also have the revised target for the Proteas – 152 in 15 overs.

UPDATE 22.54 IST (17.24 GMT) – Good news! The tires are coming off and the rain has stopped. We should hear news of a resumption pretty soon. Stick around. We get some updates from the ground and it is confirmed that India will not bowl the remaining 3 balls and play will resume at 11.10pm IST (5.40pm GMT). It will also be a chase of 15 against South Africa, with the Powerplay lasting the first 5 overs, but no word yet on the revised target. Grab a cup of coffee and join us as soon as the hunt is on.

While the wait continues for the rain to stop, let’s recap the first few laps. Aiden Markram put India into bat in overcast conditions and it started brightly for the Proteas as they picked up both Indian openers, Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal for a duck each. Then came the blowback from Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav before the latter was also run out in the last over of the Powerplay. With South Africa a wicket or two away from breaking the back of the Indian middle order, Suryakumar Yadav and Rinku Singh put on a quickfire 70-run stand, both bringing up their individual fifties in the process. The spinners bowled well for the hosts and it was Tabraiz Shamsi who broke the vital stand. The pacers went for a bit of stick and Rinku Singh capitalized on the death overs. However, just before the break in play, Gerald Coetzee picked up a couple of wickets in consecutive deliveries, but India will be the happier of the two sides, having put on 180 runs.

UPDATE 22.35 IST (17.05 GMT) – There is no further update from the ground as it is still raining in Gqeberha. All we can do is wait and hope the rain subsides. In all likelihood, when play resumes, if play resumes, the Indian innings will not resume and the chase can begin immediately. Stay tuned as we bring you the latest updates.

Mohammed Siraj walks out to bat as the rain begins to fall. Oh God! The rain just got heavier and the referees are forced to stop the game. With only three balls remaining the umpires tried to move on, but they also have to keep the pitch in mind and when the rain almost came down they had to come out. Hopefully this is just a passing shower and play will resume soon. Stay tuned for further updates.
