UPDATE 18.53 IST (1.23 pm GMT) – The tires are almost completely off and ground crews are continuing to work overtime to dry the ground. It sure is hard work out there for them, especially considering the many wet spots. As previously mentioned, priority will be given to completing the game itself today, and the latest a 20-over-a-side competition can start is at 22:36 IST (17:06 GMT) with the cut-off time at 12.00 PM IST. Rohit Sharma too can be seen in a lengthy discussion with the umpires, trying to get an assessment of how things will play out. Stay tuned as an official inspection appears to be imminent. UPDATE 18.15 IST (12.45 GMT) – Lots of activity going on on the ground as the rain seems to have stopped. Ground crews are working hard to remove the covers and get water off them and then put them back on. There is also a spot in the outfield that seems very damp, and a lot of sponges are being used to wipe it down. In a few minutes, at 18.22 IST (12.52 GMT) to be exact, we will start losing overs, but if things stay as they are, we might get some play before the day ends. Stay tuned for more updates.
UPDATE 17.43 IST (12.13 pm GMT) – The latest images from the ground show that the covers are still firmly in place and the rain has reduced to a light drizzle. There was a bit of a delay in covering the whole ground when the rain first came down, meaning there is also water on the ground and a few puddles have also formed. Let’s hope for the best. Stay tuned as we bring you the latest news from the ground.
UPDATE 17.13 IST (11.43 GM) – The rain is still around and looks to exceed the stay but it is not crashing at the moment which is a positive time. Also, when we start losing overs, the umpires will still try to finish the game if possible. Only when a 20-over-a-side contest is not possible is play moved to the reserve day and starts from the point where the last ball is bowled. Stay tuned for more updates.
UPDATE 16.53 IST (11.23 GMT) – Oh dear! Where did it come from? The rain pours down and the players rush off the field. The ground crew are quick to put the covers on, but it looks more like a passing shower. Just a few moments later, the intensity has increased further and it looks like we’re in for a bit of a delay.
