Music mogul Timbaland apologizes for Britney Spears ‘muzzle’ comment | Ents & Arts News

Music producer and rapper Timbaland has apologized for suggesting that Justin Timberlake should “guzzle” Britney Spears.

Timbaland, 51, was being interviewed at an event in front of a live audience at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC on October 29 when he made the comments.

An audience member asked about the renewed interest in Timberlake’s 2002 song Cry Me A River – co-written and produced by Timbaland – which is believed to have been inspired by the former NSYNC star’s breakup with Spears.

In her new autobiographySpears wrote that she had a miscarriage during her relationship with Timberlake, that she and Timberlake had cheated on each other, and that the music video for Cry Me A River – which features a Britney look-a-like dating another man – made her a “whore who had broken the heart of America’s golden boy”.

In a video of the incident circulating on social media, Timbaland responded to the question, “She’s going crazy, right?

“I’d call and say, ‘JT, man, you gotta gag that girl’.”

The audience appeared to be laughing at Timbaland, but the clip sparked outrage online.

He eventually apologized in a TikTok live video on Tuesday night.

“I apologize to the Britney fans and to her,” he said, reading a comment asking about his stance on women. “Yes, ‘do you know about respect for women?” Hell yeah.”
