Jamie Lynn Spears has said she is “taking some time to recover” after leaving the I’m A Celebrity jungle early.

The star, sister to Britney Spearsleft the ITV show for medical reasons, becoming the second celebrity to do so after the food critic Grace Dent.

In a statement on Instagram, her first since leaving the show, the 32-year-old said: “I can’t wait to share with you all about this once-in-a-lifetime experience, but I don’t even know where to start when I tried to describe what an incredibly special time and place I had with some of the absolute best people I have ever met and now consider family.

“Thank you for welcoming me into your living rooms night after night and supporting me through all the ups and downs. I am so grateful for this show and all the wonderful people on it!

“I’ll take some time to recover and spend time with my family, but I’m looking forward to sharing all about my journey on @imacecelebrity with everyone! Love yallll.”

A spokesman for ON TV series confirmed to Sky News on Wednesday afternoon that Spears had left the jungle for medical reasons.

“She has been a great campmate, overcoming trials and bonding with her fellow celebrities,” the spokesperson said.

Presenters Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly broke the news of Spears’ departure at the start of Wednesday’s show, with Donnelly telling viewers: “The good news is that Jamie Lynn is doing well and she is leaving with our best wishes.”

Spears had threatened to quit last week after just a few days in the jungle and became emotional missing her two daughters.

During the November 21 episode, she told her campmates that she was having a hard time being so far away from her family.

She also discussed her relationship with her sister Britney, who she said she had spoken to before entering the jungle.

She said the couple had a “very complicated upbringing” which led to them having problems with each other.

The star also discussed the challenges she faced after becoming pregnant as a teenager while starring in TV series Zoey 101 and how she became Catholic after her daughter survived a freak accident when she nearly drowned in a family pond .

Dent’s statement after early exit

Spears’ departure came days after Dent’s exit from the show, also for medical reasons.

Dent also released a statement Thursdayand said she was “overwhelmingly sad” to leave, adding: “I didn’t go out the way I planned or the way I wanted to, but I did what I could and I did it in a siren red gel manicure without chipping a nail.”

Former UKIP leader Nigel Farage, First Dates star Fred Sirieix and JLS singer Marvin Humes are among the other celebrities taking part in the show this year.
